Put RM2.6 billion back in Treasury, Kit Siang tells Najib

Had he not been suspended from the Dewan Rakyat last week, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang would have asked Datuk Seri Najib Razak to refund the RM2.6 billion put in his personal accounts to Putrajaya, the opposition lawmaker said today. Lim, who was ordered out of the lower house for six months for insulting Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, said he believed his proposal to the prime minister would gain wide support from Malaysians and also from Umno members. "I would have advised Najib to refund the RM2.6 billion 'donation' to the Treasury as one way to resolve the scandal during the debate on Budget 2016, if I had not been suspended from Parliament for six months. "I believe such a proposal would find support not only from Malaysians but a majority of the three million Umno members," the Gelang Patah MP said in a statement today. He said Umno's three million members should be feeling embarrassed at Najib's failure to fully account for the scandals involving his brainchild 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and the RM2.6 billion donation. "These issues have even caused grave concern to the Malay Rulers, (who) like all Malaysians, are clearly not convinced that the government is sincere in wanting all the facts and truths about the 1MDB scandal to be out in the open," Lim said, referring to the statement by the Conference of Rulers earlier this month calling for a quick resolution to the state-owned investor's controversies. Lim was suspended from Parliament for accusing Pandikar of abusing his power and "sabotaging" the probe by parliament's Public Accounts Committee into 1MDB. The opposition veteran today urged more Malaysians to pick up placards asking "Mana RM2.6 billion" (Where is the RM2.6 billion), as done by the majority of the opposition last Friday after Najib finished tabling Budget 2016. "Not only opposition MPs must display placards asking 'Mana RM2.6 billion', Malaysians all over the country should also do the same. "In fact, the three million Umno members should take the lead to display placards 'Mana RM2.6 billion' in all the Umno branches and divisions," Lim said. – October 26, 2015.]]>
