Businessman faces jail over fake Selangor royal seal, documents

A businessman was charged in two separate courts in Petaling Jaya today with having in his possession a fake royal seal, posing as a Selangor palace representative and falsifying the Selangor palace's yellow documents. The accused, Chia Wen Jin, 27, however pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him before Sessions Court judge Abu Bakar Manat and Magistrate Salamiah Salleh. In the Sessions Court, the father of two was charged with possessing a seal under the name of Raja Luthfi Raja Berempat Selangor for the purpose of making an impression and falsifying the yellow documents. Chia allegedly committed the offence at the VIP car park of the Palace Of The Golden Horses Hotel in Seri Kembangan at 9pm on February 5. The charge under Section 467 of the Penal Code carries a maximum 20 years' jail and liable to fine, on conviction. Judge Abu Bakar set bail at RM3,000 with one surety. Meanwhile, in the Magistrate's Court, Chia claimed trial to two counts of cheating. On the first count, he was accused of cheating customer service manager Nor Syakira Md Yusof, 25, by posing as a representative of the Selangor palace to gain free VIP car park at the same hotel. On the second count, he was charged with falsifying five Selangor palace documents. He was alleged to have committed both offences on the same day and at the same time and place. The charges under Section 419 and Section 468 of the Penal Code each carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both upon conviction. Magistrate Salamiah set bail at RM3,500 with one surety for each charge.
