Malaysian Armed Forces allocates RM5.8 million for veterans housing

The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) will build 100 new houses and repair another 100 for its veterans throughout the country starting tomorrow, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein. He said the initiative under the 1Malaysia Veterans House Repair Programme (1MVHRP) involves an allocation of RM5.82 million for the improvement of welfare aspects of MAF personnel and veterans. "In my opinion, MAF personnel who were ready to sacrifice their lives in defending the country must be given more attention, especially their welfare," he said in his 2016 New Year message at Wisma Perkasa in Kuala Lumpur today. The 1MVHRP programme, under the National Blue Ocean Strategy, is aimed at helping MAF veterans with small incomes to stay in more conducive and comfortable houses.  Hishammuddin said the initiative is one of the privileges included in the ministry's first thrust for 2016, that is improving personnel and veterans welfare. At the event, he also said that about 11,275 children of MAF personnel nationwide would be going to school by comfortable and safer buses, as compared to the usage of three-tonne armed forces truck previously. "MAF personnel, especially who are on duty at other places, will have more confidence on their children's safety," he added. – Bernama, February 15, 2016.]]>
