Malaysian fishing boat seized for intruding into Indonesian waters

A Malaysian-registered fishing boat was seized by Indonesian police in territorial waters off Langsa, Aceh, yesterday. The police detained the skipper and five crew members who had Thailand and Myanmar personal identification documents. The local media, quoting Polis Air Republik Indonesia spokesman Antonio S, said the boat was seized while using a trawl in the waters near Langsa beach. He said the boat with Malaysia registration number KHF 1959 GT 64 did not fly the Malaysian flag, thus raising the suspicion of the team of policemen patrolling the waters. He added that upon inspecting the vessel, the police seized 800kg of fish. Antonio said the skipper and crew were detained to facilitate investigations into the encroachment of waters under the Indonesian economic exclusive zone. – Bernama, February 27, 2016.]]>
