MCA respects Umno’s decision to suspend Muhyiddin from party, says Liow

MCA respected Umno's decision to suspend Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the party's deputy president, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai. The Umno Supreme Council had on Friday unanimously suspended Muhyiddin with immediate effect. "It was a decision taken by Umno. As a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN), we respect the decision and do not want to interfere in the internal affairs of the party. We will stand firm under BN. "We will remain united and continue together with BN as one strong team to face future challenges," he said. Liow was speaking to reporters after officiating at the ground-breaking for the new nine-storey building of Chong Hwa Independent High School, in Kuala Lumpur, today. After the Umno Supreme Council meeting, party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said that vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would carry out the duties of deputy president, following Muhiyiddin's suspersion. Asked on a handful of former leaders who were condemning the leadership of political parties in the country, Liow said all political polemics should stop and all parties must continue to focus on the country's development under the current leadership. "We need to have a strong government and be able to focus. We cannot have obstruction arising from political polemics. People are fed up with criticism, on 1MDB and so on. It is fruitless and does not benefit the country," he said. Liow said MCA would continue to support the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for the development and transformation of the country which was currently on track. Earlier, Liow, who is also Transport minister, said the government would continue to support efforts to develop any school, regardless of its background in order to improve the quality of education in the country. – Bernama, February 29, 2016.]]>
