MH370 widow suing MAS for negligence, says report

A woman from Victoria whose husband was on board Flight MH370 is suing Malaysia Airlines, reports the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). According to the ABC, Chong Yen Li is alleging in a writ lodged with the Victorian Supreme Court that the airline breached its duty of care, resulting in the death of her husband, Chong Ling Tan, a business class passenger on the flight, which disappeared in March 2014. Yen Li alleged the airline was negligent and failed to ensure the flight was safe, monitored and tracked at all times, it added. The writ also alleged that Malaysia Airlines failed to ensure reasonable or adequate safety precautions were taken, and failed to ensure its crew, servants and agents followed all proper procedures and did not commit any wrongful acts. Yen Li is joined in the action by her two sons aged 19 and 14. She is suing the airline for unspecified damages, claiming nervous shock and loss of earnings, reports ABC. Flight MH370 disappeared from radar on March 8, 2014, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. In August, the Australian Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) confirmed that a part of the aircraft known as a flaperon was found on Reunion Island, but there has since been no further trace of debris. All 227 passengers and 12 crew members on board are presumed dead after an official declaration by the government, classifying the incident as an accident based on international aviation rules. – February 24, 2016.]]>
