Only the dumbest will claim I recruited Muhyiddin, says Kit Siang

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang today ridiculed those who misconstrued his speech in Muar last weekend where he praised Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for standing up to Umno, denying he ever said the former deputy prime minister was his "latest recruit". "Only the dumbest and those grossly deficient in the English language and general comprehension would use what I said in my speech in Muar on Sunday to mount an attack on Muhyiddin on grounds that I had claimed the former deputy prime minister is my 'latest recruit' in the 'Save Malaysia' campaign," Lim said today. He was responding to Muhyiddin who last night said nobody "recruited" him to speak the truth about Umno and the government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. Muhyiddin, who was sacked from Cabinet in late July last year after openly criticising Najib over 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue and the RM2.6 billion "donation", has said he had to speak up as people were worried about Malaysia's future. Lim, the Gelang Patah MP, in his speech in Muar at the Johor Pakatan Harapan Chinese New Year Open House, had tried to rally all Malaysians to "save Malaysia" from rampant corruption and socio-economic injustices. "'Save Malaysia' is not my monopoly but the responsibility of every patriotic Malaysian, including patriotic Umno leaders, the three million Umno members and 21,000 Umno branches. "Whether the 'Save Malaysia' campaigns inside or outside Umno, can find a meeting point, only time will tell," he said in a statement today. Lim said he had used the phrase "The latest recruit to the 'Save Malaysia' agenda is none other than (Muhyiddin)" and had never claimed that Muhyiddin was his latest recruit. Muhyiddin had before that given a speech at a Chinese New Year Open house in his Pagoh constituency and had called for Malaysians to unite to save Malaysia from becoming a "failed state". Lim said the misunderstanding over his words could only be made by those who were not proficient in English, such as "University of Umno graduates", whom he said "should attend English language lessons to polish up their levels of comprehension". – February 17, 2016.]]>
