Pahang bauxite operators to use Pakamatic lorries only

All bauxite transport operators in Pahang will conform to the new ruling that only Pakamatic (Paka) type lorries will be permitted to transport the mineral after the moratorium on bauxite mining in Pahang ends in April. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said he had not received any complaints regarding the new directive set by the government. "The Paka-type lorries also need to be registered with the Road Transport Department. The registration process will be carried out on an ongoing basis. Each contractor must report the number of lorries that will be used," he said. He was speaking to reporters after attending a Chinese New Year open house organised by the Bentong MCA division at the Chinese Assembly Hall today. Liow, who is also MCA president, said his ministry would also ensure that no bauxite was stored at Kuantan port, after the export process begins. "We will make sure that only sufficient amount of bauxite is sent to the port each day and it needs to be exported on the same day," he said. – Bernama, February 15, 2016.]]>
