A PAS leader said today the party will field a non-Muslim candidate for the upcoming Sarawak state election. Confirming that the Islamist party would contest in 11 state seats, its deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said this would be the first time the party was doing this. "For the first time, we will field a candidate from PAS Supporters's Wing (DHPP)," he said at a press conference at the party's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. He said Sarawak PAS had yet to submit the list of candidates, which would later be forwarded to the party's Shura Council to be finalised. "The full list of the candidates will be announced in another function in Sarawak on March 12. "We have received the feedback from the state and the candidates' list will be forwarded to the Shura Ulama Council to be approved," he said, adding that the council would meet next month. Tuan Ibrahim added that the party would also hold a meeting with PKR to discuss the issue of a possible seats overlap. "We still have a relationship with Sarawak PKR and there will be a discussion regarding one or two overlapping seats. "We will only contest seats with the potential to win," he said. PAS had reportedly said it was confident of winning at least one or two seats in the Sarawak state election, expected to be held this April. – February 13, 2016.]]>
