Umno Supreme Council member lauds Muhyiddin’s suspension

The Umno Supreme Council's decision to suspend Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as deputy president was appropriate, said Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman. Tajuddin, a member of the council, said Muhyiddin's action of continuously criticising the leadership of Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak would only weaken the party and impact the results of the next general election. "If he (Muhyiddin) still loves the party, he should not do anything to divide it. Although he has been suspended, he should accept the decision with an open heart and continue to support the party. "I had been expelled (from Umno) in 1995, but I accepted the Supreme Council's decision with an open heart and I did not sabotage or oppose the party as I love Umno," he told Bernama after opening Dataran Nelayan Kota Setia in Pasir Salak, Perak, today. Last Friday, the Supreme Council unanimously suspended Muhyiddin from his party No. 2 post with immediate effect, following which deputy prime minister and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would take over the former's duties as party deputy president. Tajuddin, who is also agriculture and agro-based Industry deputy minister, said the decision had to be made as on some issues, Muhyiddin had a different stand and views from the party's although he had been reminded not to repeat it. "He had gone against the party constitution. As deputy president or as a  party member, he could not be issuing statements as though there was turmoil in Umno as these issues would be exploited by the opposition," he said. –Bernama,  February 28, 2016.]]>
