Activist starts online petition in support of Dr Mahathir’s move to oust Najib

An online petition on change.org demanding the resignation of Datuk Seri Najib Razak has garnered more than 1,400 signatories since it was started yesterday. Uploaded by activist Azrul Mohd Khatib and titled "Prime Minister Dato' Seri Najib Razak: Quit", the petition pledges support for the Citizens' Declaration launched yesterday by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The petition notes that a leader must lead by example, be a person of common wisdom, be committed to serve the people and be driven by a sincere desire to govern well. "At the very least, we expect the prime minister to have the commitment to protect and defend the Federal Constitution, and uphold the wellbeing of all Malaysians. "The office of the prime minister should never be used or exploited for personal gain or profit, for utilisation of state resources to secure loyalty, or for the elevation of party or family above the public good," it said. It also said more and more citizens have no trust in the integrity of Datuk Seri Najib Razak as a leader, and in his ability to lead and guide the country. "We have very little reason to hold you in awe or respect. "Promises are broken which, we now realise, were never intended to be kept. "And worse, your frequent silence on issues of our concern make us conclude that you believe that you owe no one an explanation," the note to the prime minister said. Nik Adura Zuliana Nik of Kota Baru, supporting the petition, said: "I want to save Malaysia! Love my country and I don't want thief to rule the country!" Another supporter, Mitch Yusmar Yusof from Berjaya Park, said: "Listen to the rakyat...Quit Najib, just Quit". Lalita Abdullah from Selangor also supported the petition with a note saying: "It's time for you to go!" Yesterday, Dr Mahathir led a group of more than 50 people, including former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, to sign a declaration supporting the ouster of Najib as prime minister. On Twitter, the former prime minister's daughter Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir urged the public to sign the petition on change.org with her tweet: "Sign, sign, sign!!http://ift.tt/1TgknGN; – March 5, 2016.]]>
