Ahmad Maslan says Citizens’ Declaration will not work

The effort taken by those who signed the Citizens' Declaration aimed to oust Datuk Seri Najib Razak as prime minister last Friday will not work because most of the issues they raised have already been answered, says Umno IT bureau chairman Datuk Ahmad Maslan. http://ift.tt/1QX5XuQ Ahmad, who is deputy international trade and industry minister, said he had read the declaration and found that most of the issues, including on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and political funding, had already been answered on various platforms. "… but maybe they just won't accept the answers," he told reporters after attending the closed-door meeting with "keyboard warriors" who were keen on helping Umno in giving accurate explanation about current issues to their audience and the public as a whole. Ahmad Maslan said Umno and the Barisan Nasional (BN) government would not keep quiet and let those involved in signing the declaration to act according to their own whim and fancy. "For every allegation they make, we will explain it to the people. We hope that at the end of the day, the people will realise that there are so much positive things that the BN government had done." In Kangar, Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man said the state government described the declaration as an insult to the people's right in electing their leaders and forming the government through a process of democracy. He said the declaration also contravened the values and principles of democracy which had long been practised in Malaysia. "As menteri besar and Kangar Umno chief, I don't think the declaration reflects the aspiration of the majority of the people who love peace, harmony and political stability. "The declaration is more of a personal agenda. In fact, their demands are just some shallow political moves which are strongly regretted, opposed and rejected," he said in a statement tonight. Azlan added that Kangar Umno and Perlis state government would continue supporting the leadership of Najib as prime minister and party president president, and Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as deputy prime minister. – Bernama, March 8, 2016.]]>
