Court clears rock singer Awie of hurting ex-wife

Rock singer Awie, whose real name is Ahmad Azhar Othman, was acquitted of hurting his former wife, Rozana Misbun, after paying her RM10,000 in compound. The vocalist of Wings, also apologised in the open court to Rozana, 38. "I, Ahmad Azhar Othman, sincerely and honestly, by taking into account the welfare of our children and to save the august court's time, apologise to Rozana. "I and Rozana agree that this is the best way to resolve the black episode in our lives for us to continue with our life," said Awie during today's proceedings. Magistrate Ayuni Izzati Sulaiman disposed the case after the prosecution and defence agreed to resolve it through compound payment and open apology by the accused as provided under Section 260 of the Criminal Procedure Code. "Since both parties agreed that this offence can be resolved according to Section 260 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the court hereby agreed to it and allowed compound of RM10,000 to be paid to the complainant (Rozana) and the court acquitted and discharged the accused from the charge," she said. Prior to that, Ayuni Izzaty asked Rozana whether she agreed to it, and she responded by nodding her head. The court also ordered that the RM9,000 posted as bail by Awie to be returned to him. On July 4, 2014, Awie pleaded not guilty in the Ampang Magistrate's Court to a charge of causing hurt on Rozana at a house in Taman Ukay Bistari, Ukay Perdana, Hulu Kelang at 1.30 pm on June 2, 2014. He was again charged, and claimed trial, to a similar charge with causing hurt on Rozana at the Jalan Tun Razak PNB Counter in Kuala Lumpur at 3pm on June 2, 2014. The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Zuhaini Mahamad Amin and Goh Ai Rene, while Awie was represented by lawyer Hazman Harun. – Bernama, March 7, 2016.]]>
