Ku Li refuses to be dragged into Umno action against Muhyiddin, Mukhriz

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has refused to be linked to any possible action by Umno against Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who had signed the Citizens' Declaration seeking the removal of Datuk Seri Najib Razak as prime minister last week. The veteran Umno politician, who is better known as Ku Li, said it was up to the party's Supreme Council whether it wanted to take action against the duo or not. "Don't drag me into this nonsense," the Kelantan prince and Gua Musang MP said when met at the Parliament lobby today. Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz had previously suggested that Muhyiddin and Mukhriz be expelled from Umno after going overboard by signing the declaration, which was initiated by Najib's biggest critic, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and supported by opposition party leaders. He reportedly said the best way was to drop Muhyiddin, who was recently suspended as party deputy president, and Mukhriz, who was recently removed as Kedah menteri besar, on charges of violating party discipline. "We have to discuss during the next Supreme Council meeting. Of course, in my personal opinion, the best is to get them out. "It is like how Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has done to remove two assemblymen who did not vote against a motion by Barisan Nasional (BN) at the state legislative assembly. We will follow their style," said Nazri. Nazri was referring to Lim dropping two PKR reps from the boards of several state government-linked corporations after they abstained from voting against the BN motion on land reclamation during the state assembly sitting in November. Previously, Nazri said he disagreed about firing Muhyiddin from the party but now felt that the former deputy prime minister had to go. "Before this, he criticised within the party, but now he has gone overboard, sitting together with the opposition," the tourism and culture minister said. However, Tengku Razaleigh said he had nothing to do with the matter. "That is up to Nazri, up to the Supreme Council. Nothing to do with me," he said. Tengku Razaleigh was previously with Dr Mahathir in criticising Najib's administration over the alleged financial scandals involving state investment firm 1Malaysia Development Berhad and the RM2.6 billion donation deposited into his personal accounts. – March 8, 2016.]]>
