Najib calls for investigation into glass shards in pupils’ food

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today shared the anger of parents whose children were hospitalised after reportedly eating glass shards found in fried noodles provided under the Supplementary Food Programme (RMT) at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Ladang Nigel Gardner, Hulu Selangor recently. While hoping and praying that the pupils would stay healthy and not having any health complications, Najib called for a thorough investigation be carried out to identify the problems in the food-handling procedures, so that such an incident would not recur. "Stern action will be taken against those responsible for threatening the health and causing hurt to the pupils. "At the same time, Education Ministry will also give appropriate explanation to the parents regarding the incident," he said on his blog today. The prime minister said the RMT was a good programme implemented to help underprivileged students, but if there were problems in the implementation, it would affect the government's image and the objectives of the programme. An English daily on Sunday reported that seven pupils from the school were admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital last Friday after reportedly eating glass shards in the noodles provided under the RMT. – Bernama, March 1, 2016.]]>
