PAS awaits rulers’ consent to table hudud bill

PAS is still waiting for consent from the Conference of Rulers before tabling a private member's bill to amend the Shariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 in Parliament to pave the way for the implementation of hudud law in Kelantan. Kelantan Shariah Criminal Code II Technical Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said any amendments involving the Shariah Court and Syariah laws would require the consent of the Conference of Rulers. As it is, there are still some sultans who have yet to give their consent, he told reporters when met at the Kelantan menteri besar's official residence, JKR 10, in Kota Baru, today. Earlier, an official from the Saudi Arabian embassy, Abdul Rahman al-Harfi, paid a courtesy call on Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob and Amar at JKR 10. On the decision by former prime minister in Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to quit Umno, Amar, who is also PAS vice-president, said it was not something out of the ordinary. He said Dr Mahathir did the same thing when Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was prime minister. – Bernama, March 1, 2016.]]>
