Malaysians in France told to remain vigilant after Paris attacks

Malaysians in France, especially in Paris, have been advised to remain vigilant and take extra precautions following a series of attacks in the French capital city yesterday. The Embassy of Malaysia in Paris, which gave the advice, also asked Malaysians to be aware of their surroundings and heed the advice of the local authorities. It said no Malaysians were reported to have been injured or killed in the attacks. "The French government has announced a state of emergency. This means security has been increased to the maximum level and security forces have been mobilised throughout the country. "Following this directive, there is now increased presence of law enforcement officers and armed forces in France, particularly in Paris. Border controls have also been tightened," the embassy said on its website today. It said travel through flights, rail and road remains operational but the people could expect some delays due to heightened security scrutiny, checks and measures. Those concerned about family members or friends in Paris may contact the embassy on the telephone numbers +33632606184 or +33145531185, it said. Reports coming out of Paris indicate that more than 100 people were killed in the attacks Friday night at a concert hall, city-centre restaurants and near the Stade de France. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had tweeted that Malaysia condemned what he described as outrageous attacks on innocent civilians in the French capital. – Bernama, November 14, 2015.]]>
