IGP, Tengku Adnan to discuss car-free roads for illegal racing

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar will discuss with Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor the latter's proposal to provide motorcycle racing tracks in the federal capital.  He said the meeting was aimed at obtaining detailed information on the proposal. "I believe he has specific reasons when making the statement on the issue. I will listen to his views as it appears there is no end to the problem of illegal motorcycle racing. "Despite the enforcement conducted, our youngsters are still engaging in illegal midnight racing, so I will meet the YB (Yang Berhormat) first," he told reporters after a pinning of ranks ceremony for senior police officers at the Bukit Aman police headquarters today. On Monday, Tengku Adnan suggested providing motorcycle racing tracks in certain areas to meet the needs and interest of youths.  In another development, Khalid proposed that individuals caught driving without a licence and owners lending their vehicles to such drivers be charged in court. "We do not want to compound anymore... Now, we will charge them in court as among the causes of car accident deaths and serious injuries are due to those who drive without driving licence. "The proposal is necessary to teach them a lesson. We must be  serious about that. We want to propose this law," he said. – Bernama, February 24, 2015.]]>
