Gopeng Umno joins Bera division in telling Dr Mahathir to leave Proton, Petronas

Gopeng Umno has joined Bera Umno today in demanding former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to be removed from his posts in government-linked companies. Division chief Datuk Hamzah Mohd Kassim said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should act against the former prime minister for leading the Citizens' Declaration to oust him. He said similar action should also be taken against Dr Mahathir's son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and suspended Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin if they also held such posts. "When they were in power and held posts, they claimed to have Umno blood... where is the commitment now? "Najib was elected into his posts as Umno president and prime minister according to party constitution. "One just cannot remove him... if the leaders want power they should contest in the elections," he said in Ipoh today. Hamzah said the division held a meeting yesterday and unanimously decided to protest against Dr Mahathir's declaration, which was signed by opposition and civil society leaders, including DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang. He condemned this as a move to protect personal interests instead of helping the people. "We don't see former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi resorting to such undemocratic actions." Hamzah's call comes at the heels of a similar announcement by Pahang's Bera Umno division, which demanded Dr Mahathir be stripped off his government positions for working with the opposition to oust Najib. Bera Umno chief, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, said the call was a unanimous decision made at the special meeting with the division's committee members today. Dr Mahathir is currently the chairman of Perdana Leadership Foundation and Proton Holdings Berhad, as well as the adviser of Petronas. – March 7, 2016.]]>
