Muhyiddin can’t challenge suspension outside party channels, says Tengku Adnan

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin cannot challenge his suspension as the Umno deputy president in court, says party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor. This followed Muhyiddin's statement that he would take his case to the Registrar of Societies (RoS). But Tengku Adnan said under Section 18C of the Societies Act, any dispute or decision of the party could not be challenged in court. "While Section 16 is about disputes between members, it does no cover the suspension of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. "The only avenue for him is through internal party channels," Tengku Adnan said in a statement. He said the Umno Supreme Council was empowered under party constitution to suspend the deputy president. He added that the council was the party's highest authority in the absence of the general assembly, and this was clearly spelt out in the Umno constitution. Tengku Adnan said whatever decisions by the council would be conveyed to the general assembly when it meets. – March 3, 2016.]]>
