Wan Azizah calls for royal commission on foreign workers

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today called on the government to set up a royal commission of inquiry on foreign workers to review the policy on their recruitment. She said the commission, which was proposed by the Malaysian Trades Union Congress, was necessary to ensure that there was no dumping of foreign workers, particularly from Bangladesh, in the country. Speaking during the debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat, Dr Wan Azizah (PKR-Permatang Pauh) said the uncontrolled entry of foreign workers would have a detrimental impact, especially in terms of health, on Malaysians. "It is undeniable that illegal foreign workers pose a burden in terms of health as they can be carriers of diseases such as tuberculosis." – Bernama, March 8, 2016.]]>
