Cabinet wants holistic study on vaping, says minister

A holistic and in-depth study will be conducted on the sale of flavoured liquids for electronic cigarettes in the market, said the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry. Its minister, Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, said the Cabinet ordered the study to be done to determine the procedures and criteria which could be identified if e-cigarettes was to be allowed to be sold in the market. E-cigarettes must meet international standards, he said. He added that the nicotine content must also be at the level permitted by the Health Ministry. Speaking to reporters after launching the Online Networking Entrepreneurs (ONE) SSM Sarawak in Kuching today, Hamzah said there must be regulations to determine who could produce these substances and who could sell and use them. Only after the study had been done would the government decide whether to allow its production and sale, he said. – Bernama, November 14, 2015.]]>
