Muhyiddin’s suspension not to split party, says Salleh

The decision to suspend former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from the post of Umno deputy president was not aimed at splitting the party. On the contrary, it was to ensure that every party member was bound by party discipline, no matter what post he or she held. Umno Supreme Council member and Communications and Multimedia Minister, Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said he believed the decision had been made in total, including taking into consideration the actual task of a deputy president. "A deputy president should be capable of assisting the president in strengthening the party. "But in this case, they (Umno Supreme Council members) felt that Tan Sri Muhyiddin had failed to do so. That's why they felt that his post as deputy president should be suspended." – Bernama, February 27, 2016.]]>
