Why didn’t Muhyiddin attend Umno meeting to defend himself, asks Shahrizat

Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin could have attended the party Supreme Council meeting last night to defend himself but did not. She said it was upsetting that Muhyiddin had not taken the opportunity to explain himself before the council, which decided to suspend his membership with immediate effect over his open criticism of party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. Muhyiddin also lost his post as party deputy president. "I feel upset and sad why Muhyiddin did not attend the meeting last night even though he was informed of the meeting. "We were hoping Muhyiddin would give an explanation for the rumours that he was involved in certain anti-Najib programmes and campaigns which are in violation of (the party's) struggle and rules," Shahrizat told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today. Muhyiddin who did not attend the meeting last night was said to be overseas. He responded to his suspension in a lengthy post on his Facebook page today, saying his punishment did not follow procedure as he was never issued a show-cause letter nor asked to face the party's disciplinary board.  Vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is performing the deputy president's duties in the meantime. – February 27, 2016.]]>
